2020 RENEWABLE ENERGY STORIES
EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOLS
With help from the Couillard Solar Foundation and Solar on Schools program, the community of Eau Claire banded together to raise over $300,000 towards solar projects. Now, Two Eau Claire high schools are powered with solar energy and the school district incorporates renewable energy into the students’ curriculum.
SAWYER COUNTY NONPROFIT HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
In 2019, the Sawyer County Nonprofit Housing Development set out to lower the electric bills for their low-income residents. With solar energy now providing electricity to dozens of affordable-housing units, these residents can keep more money in their pockets.
Located in far northern Wisconsin, the rural Menominee Indigenous Nation prioritizes stewardship of the Earth and energy sovereignty. Solar panels now power their teaching lodge and will eventually power a cluster of tiny-homes meant to serve the community’s homeless population.
